With over two decades in education as a teacher and leader of Drama and Performing Arts, Rebecca has successfully nurtured and supported the development of performance and theatre skills of hundreds, if not thousands of students. Passionate about the power of theatre and the Arts, she has helped young performers develop not only their performance skills but also their confidence, communication skills and self-esteem.
Rebecca is highly experienced in supporting performers with Special Educational Needs, successfully directing a production of Joseph and the Amazing Techincolor Dreamcoat (2018) performed by an incredible cast of children and young people with disabilities. Over 120 young people performed to an audience of 1500 during the run; an inspirational achievement and memorable experience for the students and all involved.
She has successfully guided many students through the Drama School and Higher Education audition process, equipping them with a diverse range of performance material designed to ensure each student reaches their full potential and ‘shines’. Her approach to, and the outcomes of the external examination work at GCSE level she has led has been consistently recognised as “a centre of excellence”; for both performance and technical theatre.
In addition to her skills as a Drama and Performing Arts teacher, Rebecca is a theatre performer and accomplished director. Her journey began 35 years ago at the tender age of 10. On stage, Rebecca has portrayed leading roles including Belle (Beauty and the Beast), the title roles in John Caird’s Janye Eyre the Musical and Aida by Elton John and Tim Rice. Most recently she played the formidable Madame Giry in a production of Phantom of the Opera in her home country of Wales, and Maria Von Trapp in a highly acclaimed production of The Sound of Music. As an experienced performer she inspires her students to explore their own potential and versatility on stage. A highlight in her catalogue of directed work was a production of Les Misérables - School Edition (2017) where, within the cast, she engaged students who were at risk of exclusion from education, positively transforming their school experience by focusing and nurturing their talent.
Rebecca has also appeared on screen as Diana in the BBC drama Hearts of Gold (2003) as well as a range of credits within the TV and Film Industry in Wales. Within her role as a teacher, Rebecca has ensured her students access opportunities to gain experience within the Performing Arts Industry, many of whom have gone on to work both on screen and behind the scenes. In addition, Rebecca has taught students who have gone on to lead highly successful musical theatre careers in the West End and internationally as well as behind the scenes in technical theatre, design and stage management. She is particularly proud to have taught the founder of a highly successful Agency with offices nationwide.
With a passion for inclusion in the Arts Industry, Rebecca works to ensure that those she teaches are not limited by disability, financial constraints or location. She strives to ensure all students have access to high quality Arts teaching. Rebecca believes that every young performer deserves the chance to develop their skills, gain experience, and showcase their abilities.
